Planning the Perfect Graduation Party

I can't believe that it's already been about three years since I graduated from high school.  I was so excited to graduate and even more excited to host my graduation brunch.  I've always loved organizing get togethers with my friends, so getting the chance to plan a party like this was such a treat! I know a lot of you reading this will be graduating soon, and even if you're not, these are great tips for planning any party!

Choose a color scheme!
For my graduation party I went with a pink and green theme, which was bright and inviting for the beginning of summer.  I would suggest not going too specific with the shades you choose because it will be harder to find items available in stores in the shade you'd like.  Some of my favorite color combinations for a party like this are pink and navy, light blue and white or orange and yellow!

Consider the details!
What can take a party from average to amazing are the small details.  At my graduation party I gave each of my friends a little party favor that I made at each of their seats. I put cute M&Ms in mini mason jars that had the mascot of their future college on them.  This served as a place setting and a thoughtful gift! Also at each of their seats was a little canvas I made for them that had the state they would be going to school in on it!

Select the perfect invitations!
Your invitations set the tone for the rest of the party because they can give your guests a sneak peek as to what they can expect at the actual event! Below I've linked my favorite party invitations from Minted! All of these can be completely customized and you can even add your own photo to them.

Gingham for Spring

Shirt / Skirt (old, Zara) / Shoes / Bag (Similar) / Sunglasses / Necklace

The weather in Dallas this weekend was absolutely perfect.  I was happy to have a chance to take pictures in the outfit I was wearing on Saturday.  I love how in gingham is right now.  It's one of my favorite patterns and while it's definitely a classic, it can be harder to find when it's not "on trend".  But right now, gingham patterned items can be found in so many stores.  I found this top while browsing through Zara and instantly fell in love.  The sleeves are adorable and this style will go perfectly with so many different outfits. My skirt is also from Zara, and while it's old and I can't find a link to it, I think many different skirts would look great with this top!

Friday Five

via

1. Is anyone keeping up with the NCAA tournament? This year I've been obsessed.  Unfortunately, SMU did not make it past the first round, but I've been tuning in to some of the games to keep track of my bracket.  My family and I have a competition going and I'm excited to see who will win!

2. My family picks up our new puppy, Ellie today!!! Make sure you're following my instagram if you want to see the cutest pictures of her!

3. I recently purchased this cleanser/makeup remover that everyone raves about. Has anyone else tried it?

4. I absolutely love this striped blouse on Emma from Emma Andree!

5. My friends and I listened to El Taxi by Pitbull so much while we were in Miami.  Even over a week later, I still can't get it out of my head! It's such a catchy song and will always remind me of our spring break trip!

Enjoy the weekend!

Wynwood Walls feat. The Blonde Prep!

Frannie from The Blonde Prep was also in Miami while I was there on Spring Break! While we didn't have a chance to actually meet, we decided to share the outfits we wore while exploring Wynwood Walls!

I could probably devote a whole post to how much I loved this area of Miami, but it's truly a place you have to see for yourself! I was really surprised by how colorful all of the buildings in Wynwood were, not just the ones specifically in Wynwood Walls. Even if you only walked through one block, you could find dozens of beautiful murals.

This pink and white building completely caught my eye.  It was just beautiful.  I would love to know how the owners of these properties decide what gets painted on the facade.

I'm not going to lie, I planned on wearing a neutral outfit that would look nice against different colors and designs.  This black off the shoulder top was the item of clothing I wore most in Miami. It's great for going out at night with a pair of white jeans and wedges, and perfect for exploring a new area with an outfit like this.

These MISA earrings would be absolutely perfect for anyone who loves the look of large earrings, but is worried about the weight.  I have a few pairs of earrings that are quite heavy and I try not to wear for more than a few hours at a time. These tassel earrings are made from a string-like material, which makes them incredibly light, to the point where you might not even notice you are wearing them.

Head over to Frannie's blog today to see what she wore while exploring Wynwood!

Pink Skirt

Sweater (Old, Club Monaco) / Skirt / Necklace / Shoes / Sunglasses

This skirt has quickly become one of my staples in my spring wardrobe.  You don't see pink velvet skirts everyday and this one is just so comfortable.  I'm surprised by how often I've been able to wear it since I first purchased it.  It's an elevated twist on your average denim skirt.

This outfit was perfect for running around Dallas while my parents were in town a few weeks ago when the weather was a little cooler (normal spring temperatures for anywhere other than Dallas...).

What's on My Wishlist

After spending just a few days back at home and in the coldest weather I've felt in a long time, I am so excited to get back to Dallas because the weather is already in full spring mode! I've definitely been taking the pleasant temperatures for granted this winter. I am so excited for this spring and summer and have been absolutely loving all of the new arrivals at some of my favorite stores.

Can you tell I have a thing for espadrilles? These Sam Edelman ones are so cute and come in so many colors! I can't stop wearing the J.Crew suede espadrilles I bought years ago, and these are pretty similar!

I'm really excited about these J.Crew red statement earrings.  The price is amazing, especially for a piece like this.  I'm no stranger to large earrings and could see myself wearing these with a plain white outfit to really allow the earrings to speak for themselves. Since my school's colors are blue and red, I think that these would be great for this coming year's football season!

Miami Recap

As I write this, I'm sitting by a fire trying to escape the cold, which is completely the opposite from what I was doing just a few days ago in Miami. For spring break, a few of my friends and I spent five days in Miami and I absolutely fell in love with the city.  I would say that Miami has made its way into my top three US cities, behind New York and Dallas.

Monday Blues

I certainly do not have the Monday blues today, unless you would want to count the ocean, because I'm on spring break!! School got seriously busy last week, but I made it out alive and now appreciate this break and the chance to relax even more.

This outfit has quite a few items that I've had for years so I apologize if there aren't links to the exact product I'm wearing. This is one of my favorite outfits for spring because it's bright and really lightweight.

Also how cute is this suede pink necklace from Summer Love Designs! I've been including their jewelry in a lot of my posts recently and the jewlery is actually made by a mother and daughter in my hometown! They sell some really cool and unique pieces for great prices. To purchase something that they're selling you just text the number in their instagram bio pictures of what you'd like and they'll coordinate shipping with you!

Grey Gingham

This past weekend it was so nice to have my parents in town.  I always try to take advantage when I have someone visiting to get lots of pictures.  We went down to the Design Distict in Dallas where there are plenty of walls to serve as great backgrounds!

I was wearing this adorable gingham dress that allowed my red shoes from Soludos really stand out.  This dress is really comfortable and I can see myself wearing it a lot in the future.  In the spring I love wearing dresses like these so I am excited to pull them out of my closet again.
